Telemetry Intelligence: Smart Throttle, Rules Engine, and Light Security Deployed

Guardian Visibility has deployed three interconnected intelligence systems that transform raw IoT telemetry into actionable insights — processing every webhook event in real time without adding latency to our data pipeline.

The Rules Engine evaluates configurable conditions across temperature, light, motion, battery, and GPS data on every incoming event. Staff can define rules with trigger conditions, consecutive-event requirements, cooldown periods, and scoped targeting down to individual devices or carriers. Eight seed rules ship out of the box, covering scenarios from low battery warnings to nighttime door-open detection. Every rule evaluation is logged for performance tracking and audit.

Smart Throttle automatically adjusts device measurement and transmission intervals based on trailer state. When a trailer is in transit, devices report every 5 minutes. When parked at a known facility like a distribution center, intervals extend to 10-minute measurements. For extended idle periods — trailers sitting in a yard for days — intervals stretch to hourly readings. The result: significant battery life extension and data cost reduction without sacrificing visibility when it matters.

The state machine is context-aware. It uses our Facility Intelligence database to distinguish between a trailer parked at a truck stop versus one sitting in an unknown location. When movement resumes, the system immediately snaps back to transit-level reporting.

Light Security scores every door-open event against location, time of day, movement status, and load assignment. A door opening at a known distribution center during business hours scores low. The same event at 2 AM in an unfamiliar location with an active load scores high — triggering immediate staff alerts and carrier notification.

All three systems are designed with the same philosophy: catch every exception, never crash the webhook pipeline, and target sub-5-millisecond evaluation per event.
